From a question to a map
Every pin starts as an answer in an interview. This page explains how answers become venues, how much weight a market can carry, and where the awards come from.
The interviews
Guests answer the same set of questions about their dream menu: a dish for each course, drinks, and the venue where each is best. 1,221 interviews are included, up to 19 October 2026. Venues on the map come from the 1,218 interviews up to 18 October 2026; newer answers join the map at the next update. The dish figures on the Insights page use the 1,215 interviews that answered the dish questions. Each answer is coded into a dish category and a course, and the venues named are matched to real places.
Placing venues
- Address confirmed: placed from a verified address or postcode.
- Approximate: placed on the right street, neighbourhood or town from the guest's own words. Shown with a dashed pin.
- Not yet pinned: counted in its city or country until an address is confirmed. Shown as a count ring.
Of 1,824 venues named, 731 have a confirmed address and 187 an approximate one.
How much a market can say
A market becomes a deep market once at least 30 guests have named venues there. Below that it is marked as an early signal, and shares are shown as counts. Quarter-by-quarter lines need at least 60 mentions.
Awards and guides
21,008 recognised venues and 23,019 awards. Each award record on the map shows the guide, the edition year and, for ranked lists, the position.

Some lists were collected from aggregator sites rather than the guide itself. Entries outside a guide's own country are left out, and names that match a different venue were removed by hand.
Trends
Each answer is coded to a dish category. A category's share is its part of all coded answers for that course in a quarter. A rise or fall is only called out when the latest three quarters differ from the first two under a two-proportion z-test at p < 0.05. Small moves that fail the test are shown but not called.
Specials and venue interviews
Dream Fringe, Dream Cocktail and Dream Sandwich are short themed surveys, and the venue edition interviews owners and chefs about their own menus. They are reported separately and are not counted in the main interview total.
